A moment with our intern: Kacy Miaco
As the CPRIA Golden Target Awards shortlist has just been announced, you may or may not have seen a familiar name on the list - Kacy Miaco is a finalist for Student of the Year! A huge testimony to her work ethic and aspirations in the industry, Kacy has navigated a fruitful early career in communications.
We had the pleasure of having her on our We Are Brooklyn team earlier this year as part of her UQ Cole Lawson Scholarship, which saw her assisting in PR outreach and strategy development, as well as content creation during our peak busy seasons. We asked Kacy about her experience working in consumer communications and plans beyond university. Here’s what she had to say:
1. What were the main roles you took on during your time with the business?
Since working at Cole Lawson Communications and We Are Brooklyn, I have a newfound passion for consumer PR, and loved working on various social media calendars, writing creative briefs, strategy development and monthly reports for clients in different industries.
2. What was your highlight?
The highlight of my time working here was learning to take the reins on some key projects, teaching me to apply my skills from university to industry best practice.
3. What is the biggest takeaway or thing you’ve learned?
Sometimes agency life can throw the biggest curveballs and you have to learn to adapt your plans to overcome challenges.
4. What is your top communications tip?
Always guide your strategy or campaign development with research and insights and what works best for the client you are working with. The beauty of PR is working with both your analytical and creative tools – they both serve a purpose!
5. Where do you see yourself in the future?
Working for a high-end fashion brand in their head office as a PR or Marketing Executive, or as a Managing Director of my own PR and marketing agency for lifestyle brands seeking B2C services.
6. What is your advice for students hoping to enter the industry?
“The value you get, is the value you put in” – make your experience special to you. Everyone can graduate with the same degree, but only you get to shape your uni/career experience
